Budo Philadelphia
Authentic Japanese Martial Arts

Budo Philadelphia is the home to the two authentic classical Japanese martial arts (budo) pictured above. These unique arts, passed down for generations in Japan, remain treasured, time-tested self-defense systems teaching a wide range of traditional fighting skills and principles. For the modern practitioner, they also serve as challenging “paths” for personal growth, with benefits including improved physicality, greater self-confidence, and deeper self-knowledge.

Budo Philadelphia’s training in both Daito-ryu aikijujutsu and Shinto Muso-ryu jo is conducted exclusively in the traditional Japanese manner, using two-person “forms” that allow these arts to
be explored systematically and in relative safety. Classes are small, with an emphasis on close student-teacher interaction and detailed, personal attention to student progress. Like most
classical Japanese budo traditions, sparring and competitive matches are not included.

All are welcome to observe or try a class. No experience is necessary, just
genuine interest, enthusiasm, and a desire to learn and grow!
